The Cape Ann Museum is proud to support teachers, and encourages schools to take advantage of our diverse collections. Guided visits with a CAM Educator or self-guided tours are available for students at the Preschool, K-12 and post-secondary level.
Our CAM Educators work with faculty to create subject specific tours to complement your curriculum. The CAM Education Studio is available for faculty or CAM Educators to lead students in related activities. Faculty members are also welcome to lead their own classes in the Museum’s galleries.
Guided Visits in the Galleries
Guided Gallery Visits are 60-90 minutes and can be scheduled at the Museum or in the classroom. Led by a CAM Educator, students will learn strategies for looking at art and historical objects through discussion and interactive activities. They are encouraged to make meaningful connections between the Museum’s unique collection, broader themes, and their own lives. All programs can be aligned with Common Core Standards and Massachusetts Frameworks for students grades Pre-K to 12. Visits are free to Cape Ann Schools.
Choosing a Topic for Your Visit
Favorite programs include the Maritime and Fisheries Collection, Virginia Lee Burton and the Folly Cove Designers, and the Sea Serpent of Cape Ann. The Museum also offers a wide selection of theme-based programs. Choose from one of the current offerings or call to create a custom -designed visit around specific areas of interest.

The Library and Archives at the Cape Ann Museum is a rich resource for teachers and students to view primary source documents, literature and digital resources. When scheduling, ask about visiting the Library and Archives as part of your tour.

The Cape Ann Museum strives to be a partner in education by creating collection and classroom based programs that meet Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and supports individual class learning objectives. Our experienced CAM Educators collaborate with school faculty to customize museum visits, classroom instruction, and multisession programs. School partnership programming may include subject specific tours, art making, writing programs, and archival and primary source exploration. CAM Educators can develop programs for various disciplines, including art, history, writing and language arts, and STEM.

Parking
For the Downtown Campus, please use on-street parking or the municipal parking lot available across the street from the Museum. For the CAM Green. please use the parking lot unless directed otherwise when you schedule your visit.
Food and Bags
Backpacks, food, and beverages are not allowed in the galleries. Bags can be stored in a locker or bin along with coats and umbrellas.

Please speak with the Education Manager concerning any individual needs prior to your visit. The Museum is committed to accessibility and ensuring a safe and positive experience for all visitors.
Payment
All payments can be made at the Visitors Services Desk either before or at the time of your visit. An invoice can be provided prior to your visit or the day of your arrival.
