To help pay for the construction of the new White-Ellery campus off site Collections Center and public exhibition/education space at Grant Circle in Gloucester, the Mass Cultural Council recently announced that it will be giving a capital grant of $200,000 to the Cape Ann Museum.

Officials from the Mass Cultural Council, including Executive Director Anita Walker, State Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante and State Sen. Bruce Tarr, were recently at the museum for a roundtable discussion with other North Shore grantees of the Cultural Facilities Fund who are receiving funding as part of the MCC’s current grant cycle. Cape Ann Museum Director Oliver Barker will be meeting with the assembled group and will speak about the new Collections Center initiative and tour the Museum with the MCC and other grantees.

“This is a big win for the Museum, we are most grateful to the MCC and the Cultural Facilities Fund for this instrumental support,” said Barker. “The museum is growing and expanding in so many ways at present including the mounting of our largest and nationally significant exhibition ‘Homer at the Beach’ opening in August. Our collections have grown to the point of needing this new Collections Center, and we are delighted that the Mass Cultural Council is contributing vital support to this exciting effort.”

This grant is part of this year’s $9.27 million Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund from the Cultural Council.
