A life-long painter, experimental artist Sinikka Nogelo created abstractions of environmental challenges such as the atmosphere’s ozone hole, oil spills, and melting polar ice before she began her work as a sculptor. The discovery of gyres of plastic in the oceans that spurred her to three-dimensional action with her series of wall pieces made out of plastic. The first of these was included in a solo show Tin - Relics and Remakes at the White-Ellery House. In recent years, Nogelo has continued to highlight recyclables when creating environmental themed works for the Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. A member of the Cape Ann Artisans, Nogelo is offering this workshop as part of the Cape Ann Artisans 40th Anniversary.
On Earth Day, Sinikka Nogelo led a Trash Art Workshop to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 21. The collaborative sculpture created will be displayed in the White-Ellery House along with original work by Sinikka Nogelo.
