SUMMARY:Coffee & Conversations: Quarry Inspirations—Art & Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, January 22\, 2026\n10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\nCarlson Education Center\, CAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA\nCAM Members Free\, Non-Members $5\nRegistration required as space is limited \nJoin us for a deep dive into a single piece from the Collection with a CAM Docent\, Bonnie Sontag. Begin with conversation\, a short presentation\, and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Center\, then move to the James Center to view the original.   \nMichael McKinnell\, architect and artist\, and Steve Rosenthal\, architectural photographer have interpreted their love of the natural world in their work with the built environment. Quarry Inspirations—Art & Architecture will explore their revelations in two works displayed in the current exhibition Hammers on Stone. McKinnell transformed his view of quarry stones into paintings that exhibit his architect’s eye for form\, material\, and texture. Rosenthal’s photographs of the quarries suggest structures for which quarried stones have been used. Both artists appreciated the beauty in the stone as well as the quarry sites.  \nThis event repeats again on January 29. \n  \nImage Credits: Michael McKinnell (1935-2020)\, Quarry Triptych (detail)\, 2013-24\, oil on board.
