An illustrated talk by Mary Rhinelander McCarl

With the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War coming to a close, this illustrated talk—with contemporary images and musical accompaniment from Pat Conlon, David de la Barre and Linda Shields Swicker—focuses on Gloucester’s involvement in the Civil War. Drawing on letters to the editor from The Gloucester Telegraph (every company with a sufficient number of Gloucester members had its own designated correspondent), Mary’s talk will detail the contributions of local men to the ultimate Union victory.

Mary Rhinelander McCarl is a long-time volunteer in the Museum’s Library & Archives. A graduate of Radcliffe, Mary has a Master of History from Harvard University, a Master of Library Science from Simmons College and a Master in History and Archival Science from the University of Massachusetts.
