In her 320-page biography, Nature’s Ambassador: The Legacy of Thornton W. Burgess (Schiffer Publishing, 2013), Lorance relates the compelling story of a renowned naturalist, children’s author and radio pioneer who was distinguished by his contribution to 20th century conservation and environmental reform as much as his reputation as the beloved author of children’s nature stories. Copies of the book are available in the Museum Gift Shop.

Christie Lowrance received a B.A. (English) from Hobart & William Smith Colleges and an M.A. (Professional Writing) from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her thesis work was titled “A Study in Issues: Shipwreck Preservation and Management,” for which she interviewed Dr. George F. Bass, Dr. Robert Ballard, and many other nautical archaeologists and maritime specialists. ​A freelance writer and editor for more than 30 years, she also taught writing at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Cape Cod Community College, and the Cape Cod Writers Conference.
