What does one of the most famous cultural institutions in the world look like when all its visitors have gone home? In 1988, when work on the Grand Louvre began, director Nicolas Philibert came to film the Louvre’s reorganization. As it turned out, he stayed on for five months to create this behind the scenes feature length documentary. Taking the viewer through the vast networks of underground passageways and storerooms not otherwise seen by the public, Philibert documents the hanging of paintings, reorganization of galleries, positioning of artworks, as well as the various characters who make it all happen.
