Character Design Four Week Book Project

Meets from 10:00 am to 12:15 pm on Thursdays: October 25, November 1, 8 & 15

Inspired by Harrison Cady‘s animated characters and the historic photography of Eleanor Parke Custis.

In this class, participants will explore Character Design. Each participant will create 2–3 original characters using different conceptual prompts. A selection of these full-color characters will then be combined with the black and white historic photography of Eleanor Custis, who documented Gloucester’s waterfront decades ago. These images will then get compiled into a book that honors both contemporary character design and documentary photography. Offered in conjunction with the special exhibition Harrison Cady: View from the Headlands.

Linda Bourke has been a Gloucester resident for nearly 25 years. She is an artist and book illustrator, with many published books to her credit, including Eye Spy, Eye Count, Handmade ABC, and Thursday! She is Professor Emeritus from Mass College of Art and Design, where she was Chair of the Illustration Department. Linda is an avid story-teller and is currently designing a series of puppets and games.
