Since 2011, CAMafterhours has brought art and culture lovers (21 and over) into the Museum after regular hours for engaging programming, food, drink and music. From dance presentations to sound installations, artist talks and whiskey tastings, past events have attracted Museum members and nonmembers alike. This Friday night the tradition continues, taking inspiration from two special exhibitions on view in the galleries: Portraits of a Working Waterfront: Photographs by Jim Hooper and Knots: Drawings and Paintings by Jeffrey Marshall. The evening will start off at 6:00 p.m. with a preview of composer Robert J. Bradshaw’s original composition, Sounds of a Working Waterfront. The sound installation, which blends recorded instrumentals with environmental recordings made on Cape Ann, will take place in the Portraits of a Working Waterfront gallery where guests will also be able to have their own portrait taken throughout the night by InstaPhotoBooth.

At 7:00 p.m. there will be a “conversation” between artist Jeffrey Marshall and gallery owner Ken Riaf. Marshall’s paintings and drawings currently on view at the Museum represent various visual elements found along the coastline of Magnolia in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The work in this series, created on-site, depicts tangled and knotted lobster traps, rope and debris, mauled by collisions along the boundaries of water and land. Marshall will share his inspiration, process and more through the conversation with Riaf.

Following the conversation, get in the groove with the rocking sounds of Mosse, a 4-piece rock band steeped in Americana, classic rock, swing, modern pop and indie music. Their carefully crafted originals and modern and classic rock gems are sure to get partygoers moving, and to keep them going strong. The band consists of local musicians Andrew Luman, Pete Koeplin, Jerry Smith and Rich Lehrer. And, throughout the night, Timothy S. Hopkins Catering will keep the energy up with hearty appetizers, a gourmet grilled cheese station and wine & beer. All of the galleries will be open for viewing.
