A presentation by Fitz Henry Lane Online Senior Researcher Melissa Trafton and Cape Ann Museum Curator Martha Oaks

The Cape Ann Museum holds the world’s single largest collection of paintings and drawings by Gloucester native Fitz Henry Lane (1804–1865), one of this country’s most significant 19th-century painters and one of the premier interpreters of the New England coast. One of the goals of the Museum’s current renovations is to revitalize the Fitz Henry Lane Gallery so as to offer a more complete and compelling picture of Lane, his life and times, his career and his connection to Cape Ann. In addition to the redesign of the Lane Gallery, in 2015 the Museum will launch Fitz Henry Lane Online, a catalogue raisonné and research tool, featuring new discoveries and scholarship surrounding Lane and his milieu. Join us for a journey behind the scenes of Lane’s landscapes and learn more about the plans for renovating the Lane Gallery and the FHL Online project.
