Ammiel Alcalay, poet, novelist, translator, critic and scholar who teaches at Queens College and the CUNY Graduate Center, discusses his father Albert Alcalay, one of the featured artists of the special exhibition Four Winds. This program is free for members or with Museum admission. 

Ammiel will speak about his father’s work as an artist and teacher in the context of his journey from Europe to the United States following the Second World War. He will reminisce on the early years when his family was still new to Gloucester, and discuss the influence that relationships with writers like Vincent Ferrini and Charles Olson had on his youth.  Ammiel will share the many ways in which growing up in a working artist’s household effected his own possibilities as a writer and teacher.

A new publication–Before Gloucester by Vincent Ferrini, edited by Ammiel Alcalay and Kate Tarlow Morgan–will be on sale at the talk. Alcalay will be available to sign copies of it along with recent books a little history, from the warring factions and neither wit nor gold: from then.
