Effie M. Morrissey, later the Ernestina, and now the Ernestina-Morrissey. Learn about the many reincarnations of the multi-purpose vessel:

 

First Incarnation: 1894-1925

            Sailing as a highline cod fishing schooner out of Gloucester and coasting schooner carrying supplies.

Second Incarnation: 1926-1945

             Sailing on annual Arctic expeditions for scientific institutions as well as serving for the U.S. Army and Navy.

Third Incarnation: 1946-1982

           After being nearly destroyed by fire, she sails as a packet ship between Rhode Island and the Cape Verde Islands.

Fourth Incarnation: 1983-2003

            Sailing as the State Ship of Massachusetts with a busy schedule of training, serving as ambassador for maritime heritage and as a classroom.

Fifth Incarnation: 2014-?

            Currently undergoing complete restoration.
