The Cape Ann Museum and Rocky Neck Art Colony are pleased to present an Artist Talk with Barbara Moody–Distinguished Artist/Teacher, Goetemann Artist in Residency Program, Rocky Neck Art Colony–on Sunday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow at the Rocky Neck Cultural Center.

Moody earned M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from Harvard University, as well as a BFA from Syracuse University. She is a Professor at Montserrat College of Art where she also served as Dean for nine years. Over the past decade, she has had six solo shows at the Kingston Gallery in Boston. She recently completed two large-scale mural projects for a corporation in Fall River, MA, and completed a 27 foot wall drawing for “Seven: A Performative Drawing Project” at Montserrat College of Art. Her work has been included in exhibitions in California, New York, Minnesota, and Chicago, as well as the DeCordova Museum, Mills Gallery, and Albright Gallery in MA.

Originally called the Rocky Neck Art Colony Artist in Residency, the program was renamed the Goetemann Residency Program in 2010 in honor of its founder, Gordon Goetemann. The Rocky Neck Art Colony accepts applications from visual artists in the late winter and early spring of each year. The artists selected will evidence high-level accomplishment, originality and seriousness of purpose. One applicant will be selected for each of three four-week residency terms. The program includes prime studio/gallery/living space (including utilities), press coverage, art sales opportunities, and access to a rich cultural community.

The Artist in Residence program was established in 2005 by Gordon Goetemann. It reflects principles stated in the RNAC by-laws to: acknowledge the importance of the traditions upon which the Rocky Neck Art Colony was founded and work to keep them vital in the context of contemporary culture; and provide opportunities for educational and professional development in the arts, which might include lectures, workshops, exhibitions, scholarships and residencies.
